Why Aunty Shan's Dog Care?

Choosing somebody to care for your dog is about far more than finding a person who loves dogs and is available on the right dates. You are trusting them with your dog, your home, your routines and often a great deal of information about what helps your dog feel safe and settled.

Aunty Shan's Dog Care is built around that responsibility. We provide personalised, one-to-one care in the dog's own home, with thoughtful preparation before the booking, attentive care during it and communication and follow-up afterwards.

We strive for excellence in dog care, with every dog treated as an individual.

Excellence means understanding the individual dog

Excellence doesn't mean perfection, and it doesn't mean expecting every dog, every day or every booking to look the same. Dogs are individuals, and excellent care means being observant, responsive and willing to adapt to what they need.

That means noticing the little things, asking questions rather than making assumptions and taking the time to understand the dog's routine, body language, preferences, triggers, comfort and boundaries.

Care begins before the booking

Before care begins, we review the information held about your dog and prepare properly. Where appropriate, you will receive a personalised care schedule covering the plan for the booking, such as routine, weather, planned walks, feeding, medication, rest and enrichment.

It is also a useful opportunity for pawrents to spot anything that has changed or something they may have forgotten to mention.

More than time in the house

Your booking fee reflects far more than the hours spent physically with your dog. Behind every booking is preparation, reviewing your dog's information, planning around their individual routine and needs, professional judgement, communication, pupdates, business insurance, ongoing training and the systems that help provide consistent care before, during and after the booking.

The aim is not simply to be present. It is to provide a considered care experience that gives both dog and pawrent confidence in what has been planned and how the care will be delivered.

Force-free and behaviour-aware

Care is calm, force-free and guided by the individual dog. We pay attention to body language, emotional wellbeing and choice, particularly with dogs who are nervous, reactive, rescued, senior or simply need a little more time and understanding.

Affection, handling, walking or interaction is never treated as something a dog has to tolerate simply because it is on a schedule.

Safety is part of the standard

Safety is considered throughout the booking, from reviewing routines to planning walks and responding as well as adapting to changes. All dogs cared for through Aunty Shan's Dog Care are walked on the lead, as even the most reliable recall can be affected by an unexpected distraction or startle. We’d always rather take a thoughtful, preventative approach than leave safety to chance.

Pawrents are encouraged to be completely open about behaviour, triggers, bite or snap history, health and anything else that could affect safe care. There is no judgement in honest information. It helps us make better decisions for everyone involved.

Communication you do not have to chase

Pupdates are part of the care experience, not an optional extra. You will receive meaningful photo, video and message updates so you can see how your dog is getting on. If something changes or I think you should know something, I will tell you.

Afterwards, I may check in with you to see how your dog has settled and whether there's anything you'd like me to do more or less of next time. I believe in working collaboratively with dog owners, as you know your dog best. Your feedback helps me keep learning, adapting, and providing the best possible care.

Continuity as Aunty Shan's Dog Care grows

I'm Shaheen, Founder and Lead Dog Carer, and I remain closely involved in the care experience. When I am already booked, care may also be provided by an introduced Associate Dog Carer.

You will know who is being offered for your booking. Appropriate introductions and meet & greets take place beforehand, and all bookings and client relationships continue through Aunty Shan's Dog Care.

Proof matters too

Aunty Shan's Dog Care is fully insured and DBS checked, with continuing professional development in areas including canine first aid, behaviour and emotional wellbeing. I am proud to have received 100% 5-star published reviews to date and to have been named Dog Sitter of the Year (Southern Region) at the Animal Star Awards 2025.
